Conception of three robots for a theatre play

Two actors and three autonomous robots. This is the unusual casting of the theatre play "Robots: Roses for Tusinka" a drama in three acts supported by eight musicians. The play, written by a Lausanne artist, unites serveral renowned parties around an ambitious enterprise: EPFL the scientific partner, l'École Cantonal d'Art de Lausanne (ECAL) the industrial design partner, and François Junod, a maker of mechanic automata who continues a tradition dating back from the eighteenth century.

Nurobot's task was to coordinate the conception phase of the three robots. We moderated the form-finding process of the three characters (butler/dancer/domestic animal) satisfying the specific needs of all parties: the author, the scenographer, the industrial designers, the scientific partner, the hardware partner and the software provider. We prepared the call for tenders and established the financial and temporal planning. After the conception phase, the robots were ready for construction.

Finding enough sponsors for this exciting project turned out to be hard. Due to a lack of funding Nurobot could unfortunately not be part of the realization phase. The project was stopped short before the première.
